A stroke of luck turned into a devastating nightmare in Cebu City after an e-bike driver squandered a significant gambling win on illegal drugs, triggering a violent episode that ended with his arrest.
From Windfall to Breakdown: A Three-Day Drug Binge
According to Police Master Sgt. Alfredo Macabudbud Jr., an investigator at the Inayawan Police Station, the suspect identified as "Brady" won P20,000 playing an online gambling game called "scatter." Instead of using the money for his family, he chose a destructive path. His family revealed he spent the entire amount to purchase shabu (methamphetamine).
For three consecutive days, Brady did not sleep, continuously using the drug. This prolonged binge ultimately led to a severe nervous breakdown, causing him to become "sabog" (a local term for being high and disoriented) and "buryong" (having a drug-induced psychosis).
A Terrifying Rampage in Sityo Villa Caimito
Under the influence of the drugs, Brady began shouting uncontrollably in Sityo Villa Caimito, Barangay Inayawan. The situation escalated horrifically when he threatened to kill his own family. Fearing for their safety, his relatives and neighbors were forced to call the police for help at around 12:30 in the morning on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
By the time authorities arrived, several angry neighbors had already tried to subdue the suspect by punching him. Police Master Sgt. Alfredo Macabudbud Jr. recounted the difficulty of the arrest to Superbalita Cebu. "He really did not want to be caught. Three of us policemen worked together to wrestle him down. He was very aggressive and extremely strong," Macabudbud stated.
Bizarre Statements and Legal Consequences
Even after being subdued, Brady continued to exhibit strange behavior. When his handcuffs were removed, he uttered bizarre statements, claiming he was happy social media exists and that it proved "there is a God."
Following the chaotic incident, the suspect was found to have a ravenous appetite, heartily eating a meal of liempo (pork belly) delivered for his breakfast in his jail cell. Brady now faces charges for Alarm and Scandal and Disobedience to a Person in Authority and is currently detained at the Inayawan Police Station.
This case starkly highlights the dangerous and destructive cycle of drug addiction, where a potential financial blessing was tragically converted into a catalyst for violence and legal trouble.
