Historically, this river served as a bathing spot, laundry area, and water source for the Borboranon people living nearby. Today, its beauty has been revived, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Water Warriors, part of the Borbon Water System, who conducted a river clean-up to protect the distribution lines that pass through the area.
Revitalization and Community Impact
Following the river clean-up, Borboranons and residents from neighboring towns have been inspired to return, enjoying the river for bathing and recreation. The Okawan River spans nearly 13 kilometers, originating from the mountains of Goyong and flowing through to the Silmugi Bridge in Suba, Cadaruhan, Borbon. This restoration has not only enhanced the river's ecological health but also fostered a renewed sense of community pride and environmental stewardship.
