Driver Positive for Alcohol in Fatal Cebu Accident

A driver who struck and killed a pedestrian crossing F. Cabahug Street in Cebu City early Saturday, June 13, 2026, tested positive for alcohol, police said.

Field Sobriety Test Results

Police Lieutenant Colonel Franco Rodulf Oriol, Deputy City Director for Administration of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said the driver, Mc Vaughn Morata Polancos, 24, underwent a field sobriety test using an alcohol breath analyzer and tested positive for alcohol, indicating he had been drinking when the accident occurred.

Charges Filed

Polancos faces charges for violating Republic Act No. 10586, also known as the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013, as well as a charge of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide filed by the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU).

Accident Details

Investigation revealed that Polancos was driving his motorcycle with his passenger, Kaye Fernandez Estremos, 23, from a hotel in Barangay Lahug. Upon reaching F. Cabahug Street, they collided with pedestrian Jimmy Lumapac Jaducana, 30, who was crossing the road.

Due to the force of the impact, the victim was thrown onto the concrete road, suffering severe head injuries and wounds to other parts of his body.

Emergency medical personnel quickly responded and brought the victim to the Cebu City Medical Center, but he was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
