100th Infantry Battalion Repeats as Kalis Platoon Challenge Overall Champion

The 100th Infantry Battalion (100IB) has successfully defended its title, securing the Overall Champion award for the second consecutive year at the prestigious Kalis Platoon Challenge 2026. This remarkable achievement solidifies the battalion's standing as one of the most capable and mission-ready units under the 1103rd Infantry Brigade (1103Bde).

Rigorous Competition Tests Elite Platoons

Held from April 14 to 16, the three-day event was organized by the 1103rd Infantry Brigade and featured intense competition among three participating battalions: the 100IB, 35IB, and 41IB. Colonel Abdelhalim Sakilan, deputy commander of the 1103Bde, emphasized that the challenge serves as a critical training platform for soldiers to enhance their combat skills, foster camaraderie, and prepare for the vital responsibilities of national defense and public protection.

The competition subjected top-performing platoons to six demanding events designed to evaluate their operational effectiveness under pressure. These included:

  • The 10-kilometer Platoon Run
  • Platoon Raid exercises
  • Tactical Combat Casualty Care scenarios
  • Physical Fitness Test assessments
  • Signal Communications drills
  • Observed Fire Procedure evaluations

Each event rigorously assessed participants' physical endurance, tactical proficiency, discipline, and overall combat readiness, pushing soldiers to their limits in simulated battlefield conditions.

Exceptional Performance and Teamwork

The winning platoon, led by Second Lieutenant Erick Gumampong, delivered outstanding performances across all six events, demonstrating superior teamwork, precision, and resilience throughout the competition. According to a statement from the 1103Bde, their consistent dominance highlighted an exceptional level of training and strong unit cohesion that clearly distinguished them from other competing units.

Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Bayongasan, commander of the 100IB, praised his troops for their extraordinary achievement, noting that securing the Overall Championship for the second time serves as powerful testament to their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering fighting spirit. Bayongasan affirmed that this milestone reflects the battalion's steadfast commitment to excellence and its crucial role in maintaining peace and security within its operational area.

Building on Previous Success

This victory marks the battalion's second Overall Champion title in the Kalis competition series, following their initial triumph during the Kalis Brigade Challenge 2025 held from November 30 to December 2 last year. The back-to-back championships demonstrate the 100IB's sustained excellence and continuous improvement in military training and operational capabilities.

The Kalis Platoon Challenge represents more than just a competition—it serves as a vital mechanism for enhancing the Philippine Army's combat readiness through realistic training scenarios that mirror actual battlefield challenges. By testing soldiers across multiple disciplines, the event helps identify areas for improvement while recognizing units that exemplify the highest standards of military professionalism.
