The death toll from the collapsed under-construction building in Angeles City, Pampanga has increased to five. In an update, the Bureau of Fire Protection in Central Luzon (BFP 3) announced that the body of the fifth victim was recovered from under the fallen debris at 7:57 a.m. on May 28, 2026.
The BFP reported that 15 individuals remain missing, while 26 have been rescued. The nine-story under-construction building collapsed at dawn on Sunday, May 24. Authorities had initially terminated search and rescue operations after no signs of life were detected under the rubble.
However, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla stated that search and rescue efforts continue for the missing individuals. He cited past instances where survivors were found after two weeks, such as in Baguio, and emphasized that hope has not been abandoned.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is seeking a subpoena and a precautionary hold departure order against the building owner, who has yet to coordinate with authorities. Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino earlier cited labor violations, particularly regarding occupational safety and hazard regulations, by the construction firm.
