Police Raid in Danao City Uncovers Illegal Gun Manufacturing Operation
A targeted police operation in Danao City, Cebu, resulted in the arrest of a 48-year-old man suspected of manufacturing illegal firearms. The raid, conducted by the Police Regional Office (PRO)-7, took place in the early hours of April 2, 2026, at Purok 3 in Barangay Sapangdako, a mountainous area of Danao.
Swift Police Response Leads to Arrest
The Danao City Police Station received a telephone tip about illegal gun-making activities in the area. Police responded promptly and found the suspect, identified only by the alias "Rody," inside a hut assembling firearms. Rody, a resident of the location, failed to present any documentation for the weapons, leading to his immediate arrest and handcuffing.
Evidence Seized from the Scene
Authorities confiscated a significant amount of evidence from the suspect, including:
- An unfinished .45 caliber lower receiver
- Two magazines
- A metal frame pattern
- Various iron pieces
- Tools such as a lathe machine, grinder, bench vise, saw, hammer, pliers, L-squares, screwdriver, and welding rods
These items strongly indicate an active illegal firearms manufacturing operation.
Police Leadership Commends Operation
Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, chief of PRO-7, praised his personnel for successfully dismantling another gun manufacturing facility in Cebu. He emphasized that this operation is part of the broader Oplan Bakal Ng Pagbabago initiative, which targets the root sources of illegal firearms rather than just arresting offenders.
"We are not only arresting offenders—we are dismantling the source. Through Oplan Bakal Ng Pagbabago, we target the roots of illegal firearms. This is our commitment to PNP's Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman," Maranan stated.
Call for Public Cooperation
Maranan urged the public to report any suspicious or illegal activities in their communities to the police for immediate action. He assured that law enforcement will intensify operations against loose firearms to eliminate threats and ensure the safety and protection of communities across Central Visayas.
This raid underscores the ongoing efforts by Philippine authorities to combat the proliferation of illegal weapons, which pose significant risks to public security. The seizure of manufacturing tools highlights the sophisticated nature of such operations and the need for vigilant community involvement in crime prevention.
