Major Drug Bust Nets Suspects and Firearm
In a significant crackdown on illegal substances, law enforcement officers have successfully arrested two individuals and seized a substantial amount of shabu valued at over P462,000 in coordinated operations across Zamboanga City and Iligan City. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in the Zamboanga Peninsula confirmed the details of the arrests on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
Zamboanga City Operation: Drugs and a Gun
The first arrest occurred in Zamboanga City on Friday, November 14. At approximately 6:44 p.m., agents conducted a buy-bust operation in Tugbungan village, leading to the capture of a suspect known by the alias Norben, 34.
From Norben, authorities confiscated:
- Approximately 18 grams of shabu with an estimated street value of P122,400.
- The marked money used in the operation.
- A caliber .38 revolver along with ammunition.
- A sling bag.
Bryan Babang, the Regional Director of PDEA-Zamboanga Peninsula, stated that Norben will face serious charges for violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and the Comprehensive Firearm and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Iligan City Sting and Escaped Cohorts
In a separate but related effort, another anti-drug operation took place in Iligan City on the same Friday. Around 3:30 p.m. in Hinplanon village, a suspect identified as alias John, 33, was arrested during a buy-bust.
The operation yielded about 50 grams of shabu worth P340,000, the buy-bust money, and several non-drug items. However, the situation escalated when two of John's accomplices, known as alias Tapa and alias Oraq, managed to evade capture and escape from the scene.
Director Babang confirmed that a pursuit operation has been initiated to locate and apprehend the two fugitives. John is currently detained and will be charged in court for his alleged violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Ongoing Fight Against Narcotics
These successful operations highlight the continued vigilance of Philippine authorities in combating the illegal drug trade in Mindanao. The seizure of a firearm alongside narcotics in Zamboanga City underscores the dangerous link between drugs and violence. The PDEA's efforts demonstrate a firm commitment to enforcing the law and pursuing all individuals involved in these illicit activities.
