Philippine and Australian Troops Conclude Successful Military Exercise

The Philippine Army's 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division (3ID) and the Australian Defence Force (ADF) successfully concluded the Philippines–Australia Army-to-Army Exercise "Kasangga 2025-02" in a formal ceremony held on November 7, 2025. The closing event took place at Camp General Macario B. Peralta Jr. located in Jamindan, Capiz, marking the end of a month-long bilateral training program.

Enhanced Interoperability Through Joint Training

Throughout the exercise duration, hundreds of soldiers from both nations participated in comprehensive training activities designed to boost their combat readiness and cooperation. The joint forces engaged in tactical drills, medical response exercises, and detailed mission planning. Participants also conducted operations utilizing various military assets including drones, boats, and defense weapons, significantly improving their ability to work together effectively in diverse scenarios.

Lieutenant General Antonio G. Nafarrete, the commanding general of the Philippine Army, served as the guest of honor during the closing ceremonies. He emphasized the value of the training experience, stating: "Training, regardless of the outcome, always serves as a valuable platform for learning. I trust that the efforts and dedication demonstrated throughout this year and during this exercise will be carried forward and cascaded once you return to your respective units."

Strengthened Alliance and Future Cooperation

During the ceremony, General Nafarrete presented several Australian soldiers with the Parangal sa Kapanalig ng Sandatahang Lakas ng Pilipinas award, recognizing their significant contributions to the exercise's success.

Lieutenant Colonel Noel Young, the Australian Assistant Defence Attaché to the Philippines, highlighted the particular value of Philippine jungle and survival training for Australian forces. "The Australian soldiers will return home with a far greater appreciation of the impressive capabilities of the Philippine Army. I am confident they will all go back as better jungle fighters," Young remarked, underscoring the specialized skills gained through the partnership.

Major General Michael Samson reflected on the broader outcomes of Kasangga 2025-02, noting both operational improvements and strengthened relationships. "This exercise has not only enhanced our tactical capabilities and interoperability, but also deepened the bonds of friendship and trust between our forces. We are proud to have trained alongside our Australian counterparts and look forward to future engagements that will further strengthen our alliance," Samson stated.

The successful completion of Kasangga 2025-02 demonstrates the continuing commitment between the Philippines and Australia to security cooperation and military readiness in the region.
