Major Boost for Philippine Law Enforcement
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has received a significant upgrade to its operational capabilities with the acquisition of P1.672 billion worth of new assets. This substantial investment aims to enhance the effectiveness of police personnel across the country.
Blessing and Unveiling Ceremony
The formal blessing and unveiling ceremony was led by Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla and PNP acting chief Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. on November 17, 2025. The newly procured equipment was acquired through multiple funding sources including:
- Capability Enhancement Program Fiscal Year 2020
- Capability Enhancement Program Fiscal Year 2023
- Capability Enhancement Program Fiscal Year 2025
- Congress-Introduced Changes and Adjustments Fiscal Year 2024
Comprehensive Equipment Deployment
A total of 10,017 mission-essential assets were presented during the ceremony, representing a comprehensive upgrade to police resources. The new equipment includes:
- 383 units of 4x4 personnel carriers
- 32 heavy motorcycles
- 225 light transport vehicles
- 406 light motorcycles
- 322 unmanned aerial vehicles or drones
- 4,989 enhanced combat helmets (Level III)
- 505 multi-mode mobile devices
- 3,000 units of 5.56mm Basic Assault Rifles (EMTAN)
- 155 units of 5.56mm Light Machine Guns (MERTSAV)
Strategic Distribution and Impact
These assets will be distributed to regional and national police units to strengthen multiple aspects of law enforcement operations. The equipment is expected to enhance:
- Police mobility and response time
- Communication systems
- Firepower capabilities
- Intelligence gathering operations
- Police visibility in communities
- Overall field readiness
Government Support and Public Assurance
PNP acting chief Lieutenant General Nartatez expressed profound gratitude to the National Government for prioritizing police capability upgrading. "We thank the government for allocating this significant investment to strengthen our operational readiness," Nartatez stated during the ceremony.
He emphasized that "This is a strong message of trust from the administration" and assured the public that these improvements will translate to more dependable police service.
"With these new tools, our communities can rely on a police force that responds faster, performs better, and protects more effectively," Nartatez declared.
The police chief concluded with the PNP's commitment in Filipino: "Ito po ang Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas -- Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman" (This is the New PNP for the New Philippines -- Fast, Honest, and Tangible Service).
This massive equipment upgrade represents one of the most significant investments in Philippine law enforcement capabilities in recent years, positioning the PNP to better serve and protect communities across the archipelago.
