PNP Highway Patrol Group Mobilizes Significant Force for ASEAN Summit Security in Cebu

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Highway Patrol Group (HPG) has initiated a major deployment of personnel and mobility assets to strengthen security and traffic management protocols for the upcoming 48th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Leaders' Summit. The high-profile international event is scheduled to take place in Cebu during the month of May.

Substantial Contingent Assembled for Convoy and Road Security

PNP-HPG Acting Director Brigadier General Rommel Batangan provided detailed operational specifics, confirming that a total of 108 motorcycle riders operating 108 motorcycles will be deployed. This contingent is complemented by 38 drivers and 24 crew members who will man 38 mobile patrol vehicles. All personnel will operate under the supervision of five convoy officers and will be formally turned over to the Presidential Security Command for strategic deployment throughout Cebu.

Brigadier General Batangan explained the critical role of these units, stating, "This will serve as the primary lead vehicle for the convoy of our incoming ASEAN guests. Their responsibilities include providing road clearing operations while simultaneously ensuring onboard security support from the Police Security Protection Group."

Personnel Recalled Nationwide to Form Specialized Contingent

The acting director further clarified that the deployed personnel have been specifically recalled from various provinces across the country to assemble this specialized contingent. "The personnel we are deploying were recalled from different provinces to successfully form this complete contingent," Batangan added. He provided assurances that this significant mobilization for the ASEAN Summit will not negatively impact or disrupt standard HPG operations and security services in other regions of the Philippines.

Emphasis on Precision, Discipline, and National Pride

Brigadier General Batangan underscored the profound importance of this security mission, framing it as a demonstration of the Philippines' steadfast commitment to global cooperation, peace, and regional solidarity. He reminded all personnel that they will act as frontliners, directly responsible for ensuring the safe, secure, and efficient movement of all ASEAN delegates and dignitaries throughout the summit.

The director stressed the absolute necessity for precision, unwavering discipline, and strict adherence to all security protocols. He highlighted that there is zero tolerance for error as the country hosts this crucial high-level international gathering. Concurrently, Batangan encouraged all HPG members to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and to embody the renowned spirit of Filipino hospitality in every interaction with international guests.

"Our objectives are unequivocal: achieve zero security incidents, guarantee seamless mobility for all delegates, and project national pride. Your presence on the roads must consistently reflect order, safety, and operational excellence, as you carry both the distinguished badge of the HPG and the flag of the Philippines," Batangan stated emphatically.

The comprehensive HPG security deployment to Cebu is planned to remain active and operational until May 9, covering the full duration of the summit activities and related events.
