The possibility of sabotage on the transmission lines of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) that caused a widespread blackout on May 13 has not been ruled out, according to officials.
Lawmakers Express Concern
According to Alvarez, he regrets that until now, the NGCP has not yet determined the real cause of the incident that led to the blackout. However, after seeing the photo of the affected line, he said it looked as if it had been "shot."
ACT Teachers Party-list Representative Antonio Tinio supported this observation, stating that the damage does not appear to be ordinary wear and tear.
NGCP Refers Case to PNP
NGCP Public Relations Chief Cynthia Alabanza explained that because the cause is still unclear, they have not ruled out the possibility of sabotage, prompting them to refer the matter to the Philippine National Police.
Meanwhile, PHILRECA Party-list Representative Presley de Jesus said that someone might be attempting to sabotage the NGCP in order to affect its congressional franchise.
