Sarangani-Davao del Sur Coastal Road Reopens After Quake

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on Thursday that a collapsed road section leading to Glan, Sarangani, has been reopened to traffic.

Road Now Passable

According to DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, the Sarangani–Davao del Sur Coastal Road in Barangay Kapatan is now accessible to all types of vehicles, ensuring the continued delivery of relief goods.

“I will report this morning that the road going in and out of Glan, Sarangani is now passable. Relief goods and other necessities of our countrymen can now be delivered, especially in Glan, because it is very close to the epicenter of the earthquake, so the roads and bridges there were really damaged,” Dizon said in a DPWH video.

Presidential Directive

Dizon noted that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. visited the area and ordered the DPWH to expedite repairs. “Yesterday, the President went here, he ordered us to expedite the opening of access to Glan,” the DPWH chief added.

The reopening follows damage caused by a strong earthquake on Monday, June 8, which affected Southern Mindanao. The road section was temporarily closed for repairs before being reopened on Thursday, June 11.

Collaborative Effort

Dizon acknowledged the support of local government units (LGUs) and the private sector in completing the project quickly. The swift repair aligns with the President’s directive to ensure uninterrupted aid delivery to communities impacted by the earthquake.
