Police Officer Seriously Injured in Accidental Firearm Discharge
A 29-year-old police patrolman from Toledo City sustained serious injuries after his service firearm accidentally discharged on Wednesday evening, November 26, 2025. The incident occurred inside his boarding house in Sityo Gahad, Barangay Poblacion, Sibonga City at approximately 6:50 PM.
Emergency Response and Hospitalization
The victim, who was assigned to the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 7 based at Camp Ceperino Genovia in Barangay Bahay, Sibonga City, was immediately rushed to Deiparine Community Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office quickly transported the injured officer to receive care from doctors.
Investigation Reveals Circumstances
According to the investigation conducted by the Sibonga Municipal Police Station, the accident happened while the officer was preparing for his deployment to the Cebu Police Provincial Office. A classmate of the victim stated that while inside their boarding house, he heard a sudden gunshot.
The witness immediately discovered his colleague emerging from the room already bleeding and asking for assistance. Investigation findings indicate that the 9MM service weapon accidentally fired as the officer was about to holster it, striking him in the abdominal area.
Both the RMFB 7 and Sibonga Municipal Police Station have launched separate investigations into the incident to determine the exact circumstances that led to the accidental discharge and to review firearm safety protocols.
