A person wandering around was placed under hospital arrest after attempting to stab a police officer who responded to a report about a man carrying an icepick near Il Corso at the South Road Properties (SRP) in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City, around 12 noon on June 16, 2026.
The suspect, identified only as “Mr. X,” and the police officer involved, Patrolman Glenbert Tapil Pelarion, assigned to the CMFC-SRP Border Control, were both involved in the incident.
According to the investigation by the Mambaling Police Station, a concerned citizen approached Patrolman Pelarion and his companions to report that a man was carrying a large stone and an ice pick and was looking for a fight in the area.
Because of this, Patrolman Pelarion responded together with Patrolman Gretch Lyrr Mocoy Floteña, Patrolman June Darel Jamco, and Patrolman Kim Ryan Baquial Neri.
When Patrolman Pelarion approached the suspect, the latter suddenly stabbed at his stomach. However, the stab wound was not deep because the icepick got caught in the bandolier vest he was wearing.
The police said the suspect tried to stab Patrolman Pelarion again.
Because of this, and to protect himself and other people who might be involved, the police officer was forced to fire his service firearm.
The suspect was hit in the right leg, which led to his arrest.
He was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment and is currently under hospital arrest while the case of Attempted Homicide is being prepared against him.
Mr. X is described as having a mental problem.
