Firearms Raid in Lapu-Lapu City Leads to Arrest

Operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Mandaue City Field Unit successfully arrested a 53-year-old man during a raid on his residence in Sitio Mangga, Barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City. The operation, which took place from 8:42 AM to 10:42 AM on Friday, November 14, 2025, was conducted under the authority of a court-issued search warrant.

Weapon Confiscated During Operation

During the search of the suspect's home, authorities recovered a caliber .45 pistol along with its magazine containing four live ammunition rounds. The suspect, identified only by the alias "James," was immediately taken into custody following the discovery of the illegal firearm.

The CIDG-Mandaue City Field Unit initiated the operation after receiving multiple complaints from concerned residents about the suspect's habitual carrying of firearms, which had been causing fear and anxiety among neighbors in the community.

Legal Proceedings and Investigation

Prior to the raid, intelligence personnel conducted thorough surveillance to verify the information received from the community. Once sufficient evidence was gathered, the CIDG applied for a search warrant that was promptly approved by Honorable Judge Nelson Leyco, Executive Judge of RTC 7 Branch 27 in Cebu City.

The warrant was issued for violations of Section 28 of Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and was dated November 11, 2025.

This house raid operation was conducted as part of the CIDG's flagship program called "Oplan Paglalansag Omega," which focuses on dismantling criminal elements and removing illegal weapons from communities.

The suspect is currently detained at the CIDG 7 custodial facility and is scheduled to face formal charges on Monday, November 17, 2025.
