DOJ Acting Chief Denies Allegations of Excluding NBI in Manhunt Operations Against Atong Ang

Acting Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida has strongly refuted claims that the Department of Justice did not involve the National Bureau of Investigation in the manhunt operations targeting businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang. Ang is currently facing cases related to the disappearance of cockfighters, a matter that has drawn significant public and legal attention.

Clarification on Inter-Agency Coordination

According to Vida, the court has issued clear directives mandating that all law enforcement agencies must collaborate in this operation. He emphasized that there was no official order from the DOJ to exclude the NBI from these efforts. “We are following the court’s instructions to ensure a coordinated approach,” Vida stated, dismissing any suggestions of internal discord.

Denial of Discussions with NBI Director

Vida also denied that any such discussions took place between him and NBI Director Lito Magno. He clarified that each agency is fulfilling its designated role in the operation, with no government officials leaking sensitive information. “Every agency has its part to play, and we are committed to maintaining confidentiality and efficiency,” he added.

Response to Interior Secretary's Remarks

This clarification comes in response to statements made by Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, who reportedly said he was not seeking assistance from the NBI and advised against involving them due to potential information leaks. Despite these remarks, the DOJ has assured the public that inter-agency coordination remains intact and aligned with the court’s orders.

Ensuring Legal Compliance and Public Trust

The DOJ reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all operations are conducted transparently and effectively. Vida stressed that the department is focused on resolving the cases involving Ang while adhering to legal protocols and fostering trust among the involved agencies.
