The Sandiganbayan Third Division has ordered an independent medical examination for Senator Rodante Marcoleta to assess whether his continued confinement at the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital is still necessary.
Court Directs UP-PGH to Conduct Exam
The anti-graft court directed the director of the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) or a designated representative to examine the senator within three days and submit a report on whether there is sufficient reason for him to remain hospitalized.
According to PNP doctors, Marcoleta's condition has improved, and he can travel if he wears a face mask. However, they still recommend that he stay in the hospital until he completes his antibiotic treatment.
Transfer Order Not Yet Executed
The Sandiganbayan had earlier ordered Marcoleta's transfer to the New Quezon City Jail, but this has not yet been implemented because he remains confined at the PNP General Hospital.
Marcoleta is facing charges of plunder and three counts of violating the Anti-Gift Law in connection with an alleged ₱75 million in undeclared donations during the 2025 elections.
