Talisay City police conducted a successful anti-gambling operation on Sunday afternoon, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals involved in illegal cockfighting activities across different locations in the city.
Police Operation Nets Multiple Suspects
The crackdown began at 2:50 PM on November 16, 2025, when Police Lieutenant Colonel Maila Maramag, chief of Talisay City Police Station, led a team to Sityo Sambagan in Barangay Tabunok. During this initial operation, authorities cornered and apprehended five individuals engaged in illegal cockfighting activities.
The suspects arrested in the first raid were identified as: alias Danny, a 50-year-old habal-habal driver from Dumanjug City; alias Ben, 54, from Barangay Tabunok; alias Eric, 32, from Davao de Oro; alias David, 27, from Barangay Bulacao, Cebu City; and alias Jeffrey, 38, also from Barangay Tabunok.
Second Raid Conducted Within Hours
Approximately one hour after the initial operation, police conducted another raid in Sityo Sambag, Purok Kimba, Barangay Cansojong. This follow-up operation led to the arrest of two additional suspects: alias Rene, a 48-year-old construction worker, and alias Raffy, 31. Both individuals were residents of the mentioned location.
During both operations, law enforcement officers confiscated various pieces of evidence, including fighting cocks, paraphernalia used in cockfighting, and betting money that was being wagered on the illegal games.
Legal Consequences for Suspects
All seven arrested individuals now face charges for violating Presidential Decree 1602, which specifically addresses illegal gambling activities including cockfighting.
