Arayat Pauses for a Day of Historical Remembrance
The municipal government of Arayat in Pampanga has officially announced a suspension of all government work and classes for both public and private schools on December 1, 2025. This special non-working day has been declared to honor the 155th birth anniversary of the town's revered revolutionary hero, the late Gen. Jose M. Alejandrino.
Official Order from the Mayor's Office
This directive was formally enacted by Mayor Jeffrey M. Luriz through Executive Order No. 35, which was signed on November 27, 2025. The order mandates the suspension to provide all residents of Arayat with the full opportunity to participate in the festivities and commemorative activities for Alejandrino Day, an occasion also celebrated locally as Arayat Day.
The local government stated that the suspension is essential to properly “commemorate and support the celebration of the Alejandrino Day,” ensuring that the community's tribute to its historic figure is meaningful and widely observed. The order applies comprehensively to all establishments and educational institutions operating within the jurisdiction of the Municipality of Arayat.
Honoring a Revolutionary Leader
Gen. Jose M. Alejandrino was a distinguished figure from Arayat who played a critical role in the nation's history. He served as a general during both the Philippine Revolution against Spain and the subsequent Philippine-American War. His leadership was particularly significant in the region, as he was the commanding general of Central Luzon and also held the position of military governor of Pampanga during the latter conflict. This holiday serves as a powerful reminder of his contributions and the rich historical heritage of Arayat.
