Cebu City Police Intensify Operations, Rescue Hundreds of Minors and Drug Suspects

In a significant crackdown on criminal activities, the Cebu City Police Office has reported the rescue of a total of 573 minors and the apprehension of 16 drug suspects during intensified police operations conducted from January 19 to 25, 2026. This week-long effort underscores the authorities' commitment to maintaining public safety and order in the bustling urban center.

Drug Busts and Legal Actions

As part of the anti-criminality drive, law enforcement officers successfully seized 13.45 grams of shabu, with an estimated street value of P91,460. Those involved in these illegal drug activities have been formally charged under Section 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165, commonly known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. This legal framework ensures that offenders face stringent penalties, reinforcing the government's zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics.

Youth Protection and Curfew Enforcement

In a parallel initiative focused on safeguarding the youth, the rescued 573 minors were found to be in violation of the local curfew ordinance. Police intercepted these individuals on the streets during late-night and early-morning hours. To provide appropriate support, the minors were immediately turned over to barangay gender and development and social welfare offices, where they will undergo intervention programs designed to address their needs and prevent future infractions.

Coordinated Police Efforts

The operations, codenamed Oplan Bulabog and Oplan Bakal Sita, were spearheaded by Police Colonel George Ylanan, the current chief of the Cebu City Police Office. These efforts were conducted in close coordination with Police Regional Office 7 Director, Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan. Their collaborative approach highlights the importance of regional and local partnerships in effective law enforcement.

Broader Compliance and Enforcement Measures

Beyond the focus on minors and drugs, the police conducted an extensive 1,666 inspections of business establishments throughout the week. These inspections aimed to ensure full compliance with existing laws and ordinances, promoting a safer commercial environment. Additionally, personnel from the Cebu Environmental Sanitation and Enforcement Team (Ceset) issued nine citation tickets for minor offenses, such as smoking and drinking in public places, further contributing to urban orderliness.

Goals and Future Commitments

These nightly operations are strategically designed to prevent crimes committed by minors and individuals under the influence of substances. Police Colonel George Ylanan has reassured the public that the Cebu City Police Office will continue to enhance these measures. The overarching goal is to keep Cebu City orderly, safe, and peaceful, fostering a secure community for all residents and visitors alike.
