In a significant move to facilitate infrastructure upgrades, the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) will temporarily relocate its van-for-hire (v-hire) operations starting on Friday, March 13, 2026. The shift, effective from 9 PM each night, will move these services to an area near the Taboan Public Market. This adjustment is designed to pave the way for essential asphalt laying and drainage system repairs within the terminal premises, ensuring smoother operations ahead of the busy Semana Santa period.
Enhanced Security Measures Announced
Simultaneously, CSBT administrator Ahmed Cuizon has announced the implementation of a stringent "No ID, No Entry" policy, set to take effect on March 30. This policy will apply to both the South and North bus terminals, targeting a wide range of individuals including bus operators, drivers, conductors, concessionaires, and provincial employees assigned to the terminal.
Cuizon emphasized that this measure is a direct response to numerous reports of non-passengers boarding buses outside the terminal to engage in unauthorized vending activities or compete with accredited vendors inside. By enforcing ID checks, authorities aim to bolster security and maintain order within the facility.
Construction Details and Timeline
The construction project, covering over 3,000 square meters, is expected to be completed within seven to ten days, well before the anticipated influx of passengers for Semana Santa. The work, funded with a budget of P12 million under Ten Twenty Allied Developers, will primarily occur during nighttime hours from 9 PM to 5 AM to minimize disruption to daily operations.
During daytime hours, only skeletal work will be conducted to ensure that terminal activities proceed with minimal interference. This project was originally approved in October of the previous year but faced delays due to unfavorable weather conditions, highlighting the urgency of its current execution.
Impact on Operations and Passenger Comfort
As a result of the construction, the bus parking area will be temporarily cleared, necessitating the relocation of v-hire services to Taboan—a strategy previously employed during the Sinulog festival. Normal operations are slated to resume immediately upon project completion.
To further enhance passenger experience during this transitional phase, Cuizon revealed plans to deploy additional personnel and install extra air-conditioning units within the terminal. These steps are crucial to ensuring the comfort and convenience of the expected surge in travelers for Semana Santa, demonstrating a proactive approach to public service amidst ongoing improvements.
