A 40-year-old man found himself behind bars in Minglanilla City after an alleged molestation incident against a minor, an act he claims not to remember due to extreme intoxication. The suspect, identified by the alias "Lamig," was apprehended on the night of Sunday, November 30, 2025.
From Celebration to Accusation
The suspect, a junkshop worker and resident of Minglanilla, was returning home from a child's baptism celebration at a friend's house. According to his account, the group had consumed more than 10 bottles of alcoholic beverages, leaving him severely inebriated. Instead of heading directly home, he and his companions stopped to buy cigarettes.
It was during this stop, at around 9:00 PM, that the alleged crime occurred. The suspect is accused of touching and fondling the breasts of a minor-aged girl. The victim is reported to be the daughter of a barangay councilor in Minglanilla, adding a layer of sensitivity to the case.
Swift Police Action and Arrest
The response was swift following the victim's report to local barangay officials. Authorities immediately acted on the complaint, leading to the suspect's apprehension. Lamig was subsequently turned over to the Minglanilla Police Station for custody and further investigation.
The confrontation did not end peacefully. During the incident, the suspect was allegedly assaulted by the victim's sibling, while a companion of Lamig was hit with a piece of wood. This companion was later placed under hospital arrest to receive treatment for his injuries.
Suspect's Defense: A Blackout from Alcohol
In his statement to investigators, the primary suspect presented a defense rooted in his level of intoxication. He argued that he had no recollection of his alleged actions due to being "gravely drunk" after the drinking session. This claim is now a central point for authorities to verify as they build their case against him.
The case highlights serious concerns regarding public safety, alcohol abuse, and the protection of minors. It remains under active investigation as local police compile evidence and statements from all involved parties.
