Officials in Lapu-Lapu City have revealed that several of the festival's most prominent events are being postponed as a cost-saving measure during an ongoing global energy crisis.
Mayor Announces Strategic Cutbacks
Mayor Ma. Cynthia “Cindi” King-Chan has officially confirmed the cancellation of the Sadsad sa Kadaugan 2026 Street Dancing and the Grand Ritual Showdown competition. This decisive action follows escalating tensions in the Middle East, which are driving fuel prices upward and adversely affecting the local economy.
Prioritizing Essential Public Services
The decision to scale back the festival emerged from meticulous consultations with the City Tourism Office and various event planners. Mayor Chan emphasized that the local government must exercise fiscal prudence, redirecting resources toward essential services for residents.
“In light of the ongoing energy crisis resulting from the conflict in the Middle East, the City Government of Lapu-Lapu announces the scaling back of activities for the 505th Kadaugan sa Mactan celebration this April,” stated Chan.

The Kadaugan sa Mactan is an annual festival that honors the legendary battle on April 27, 1521. It commemorates the triumph of Datu Lapulapu and his warriors over the Spanish expedition led by Ferdinand Magellan.
