In a significant boost to public health, Magalang Mayor Malu Paras-Lacson has launched a pioneering initiative providing free monthly maintenance medicines to qualified residents. This program marks a major step towards fulfilling her commitment to accessible healthcare for all Magaleños.
MALUgud Healthcare Program: Free Medicine for Magaleños
Mayor Malu Paras-Lacson, a nurse by profession, has made healthcare a cornerstone of her administration. She officially started the MALUgud Healthcare Medicine Distribution Program in October 2025 to directly address the needs of the community.
The program is designed for qualified locals, offering them a lifeline of free essential drugs every month. Since its launch just a few months ago, the local government has already achieved a remarkable milestone, distributing an estimated 48,000 pieces of maintenance and essential medicines.
To ensure comprehensive care, the program's formulary is extensive, with more than 120 different types of medicines available. This wide selection allows the program to cover a broad spectrum of health issues, from common ailments to chronic conditions that require long-term management.
Expanding Reach with PhilHealth Yakap
Complementing the free medicine drive is the active implementation of the PhilHealth Yakap Program in Magalang. This national initiative is being leveraged to widen the safety net for residents.
To date, the town has successfully registered over 20,000 residents under the PhilHealth Yakap Program, granting them access to improved and more affordable healthcare coverage. Mayor Lacson has announced that this number is projected to grow significantly in the near future.
The MALUgud Healthcare team is set to embark on a barangay-level mission in the coming months. Their goal is to visit every community in Magalang to register more qualified residents, ensuring that no one is left behind and that healthcare reaches every corner of the municipality.
