Bike Theft Leads to Quick Arrest in Cebu City

A 23-year-old man is now in police custody after allegedly stealing a valuable mountain bike in Cebu City's Barangay Duljo-Fatima. The incident occurred early Thursday morning, November 13, 2025, around 4:30 AM on C. Padilla Street.

Suspect Identified and Apprehended

The suspect has been identified as Alejandro Allera, a single resident from Sityo Alaska Proper in Barangay Mambaling. Police from the Mambaling Police Station currently hold him in custody while preparing formal theft charges against him.

The arrest came after the victim, 37-year-old Roley Ombing, a married security guard from Barangay Duljo-Fatima, reported the crime to authorities. Ombing told police that his mountain bike, valued at approximately P50,000, was stolen during the early morning hours.

Shocking Resale Value and Suspect's Defense

Investigators discovered that the suspect allegedly sold the expensive bicycle to a neighbor for only P600 pesos, a fraction of its actual worth. This quick sale ultimately led to his capture as the transaction drew attention within the community.

When questioned by Sunstar Superbalita Cebu, Allera presented a different version of events. "I did not steal the bicycle," the suspect claimed. "I thought it had been abandoned near the basketball court."

Allera explained that he had watched the mountain bike for approximately thirty minutes and, when nobody claimed it, he decided to take it, ride it, and bring it to his home. However, police evidence contradicted his story, showing that he had indeed sold the bicycle to his neighbor for the meager sum.

The case continues to develop as authorities gather additional evidence and statements before filing formal charges in court.
