The Bureau of Fire Protection Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula has officially inaugurated a new fire sub-station in Sinunuc village, Zamboanga City, on Friday, February 27. This event marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to strengthen fire protection and emergency response services across the region.

Facility Details and Funding

The P4 million fire sub-station was constructed in 2025, with funding provided by the Sinunuc Barangay Council. The facility has been renovated to accommodate personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection, aiming to improve the speed and efficiency of fire response services for local residents.

Fire Truck Turnover

During the turnover ceremony, a P1.5 million fire truck was officially handed over. This vehicle, funded by the barangay through its approved annual budget, features a 1,500-liter water capacity, significantly boosting the operational readiness of the new station.

Official Statements and Appreciation

In his message, Mayor Khymer Olaso expressed gratitude to Sinunuc Village Chairperson Pilarica Ledesma and BFP-9 officials for spearheading the project. He emphasized the importance of aligning local initiatives with the growing safety needs of the community and reaffirmed the city government's commitment to fire safety at the community level.

Senior Superintendent Jeraniel Taporco, BFP-9 chief of staff, along with Superintendent Leo Pioquinto, district fire marshal, conveyed heartfelt appreciation to Ledesma for her efforts in bringing the project to fruition.

Personnel Assignments

Superintendent Leo Pioquinto announced that Senior Fire Officer 3 Jennifer Rivero has been assigned as the acting station commander of the newly activated Sinunuc Fire Sub-Station. The sub-station will be staffed by seven personnel to ensure effective operations.

This inauguration underscores a collaborative effort between local government and community leaders to enhance public safety and emergency preparedness in Zamboanga City.
