Cebu City Police Intensify Anti-Crime Drive with Major Operations
The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has reported significant achievements in its ongoing campaign against criminal activities, with a focus on protecting vulnerable youth and combating illegal drugs. From January 19 to 25, 2026, a series of coordinated operations led to the rescue of 573 minors and the arrest of 16 individuals involved in prohibited substances.
Drug Busts and Legal Actions
During these intensive operations, law enforcement authorities confiscated approximately 13.45 grams of suspected shabu, with an estimated street value of P91,460. The arrested suspects are now facing charges under Section 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. This legal framework ensures strict penalties for drug-related offenses, reinforcing the police's commitment to upholding national laws.
Protection of Minors and Curfew Enforcement
In a dedicated effort to safeguard young individuals, the 573 minors were rescued due to violations of the local Curfew Ordinance. These youths were found roaming the streets late at night, prompting immediate intervention by the police. Following their rescue, they were promptly turned over to respective Barangay Gender and Development (GAD) offices and social welfare units. This step ensures that the minors receive necessary guidance, counseling, and support services to prevent future incidents and promote their well-being.
Leadership and Collaborative Efforts
The operations were spearheaded by Police Colonel George Ylanan, chief of the CCPO, in close coordination with PRO 7 Director Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan. Their leadership underscores a proactive approach to crime prevention, particularly targeting activities that could endanger minors or involve intoxicated individuals. Colonel Ylanan emphasized that these nightly operations are designed to deter any potential crimes arising from such situations.
Inspections and Environmental Enforcement
Beyond the rescues and arrests, the police conducted an impressive 1,666 inspections of various establishments across Cebu City. These checks aimed to ensure compliance with local laws and ordinances, maintaining public order and safety. Additionally, the Cebu Environmental Sanitation and Enforcement Team (Ceset) issued 9 citation tickets for minor offenses, such as smoking and drinking in public areas. This multi-faceted strategy highlights a comprehensive effort to address both major and minor infractions, contributing to a safer urban environment.
The success of these operations reflects the CCPO's unwavering dedication to crime reduction and community protection. By focusing on both enforcement and preventive measures, the police aim to create a more secure atmosphere for all residents, especially the youth, in Cebu City.
