A family in Danao City was forced to take matters into their own hands to subdue a relative who went on a violent rampage, resulting in the suspect being restrained with rope before police intervention.
Violent Outburst in Sityo Central
The incident occurred on the night of Monday, January 5, 2026, in Sityo Central, Barangay Guinsay, Danao City. The suspect, identified only by the alias Berto, 42 years old, allegedly arrived at the home of his brother-in-law in an extremely agitated and intoxicated state.
According to the investigation led by Police Master Sergeant Raymond Bacordo of the Danao City Police Station, Berto was carrying a piece of 2x2 lumber which he then used as a weapon. He began shouting provocations and threats at the family of the victim before violently attacking the house itself.
Family Subdues Aggressor, Uses Rope to Restrain
In a frightening scene, Berto used the wooden post to forcefully strike and damage the door and walls of the house until portions of the structure were destroyed. The victim and complainant is his brother-in-law, alias Caloy, 48, an aircon technician.
Fearing for their safety, especially because a small child was present inside the home, the family members worked together to pacify the enraged suspect. Once they had managed to neutralize the immediate threat, they took the step of tying Berto's hands with rope (pisi) to prevent him from causing further harm or resuming his attack.
Hidden Grudge and Police Investigation
PMSgt. Bacordo added that investigators believe the suspect was harboring a hidden resentment or grudge against his sibling and brother-in-law. This underlying motive is considered a possible catalyst for the sudden violent outburst.
During police questioning, the suspect's behavior raised further questions. Officers noted that his answers were evasive and distant, as if he was deliberately avoiding direct responses to their inquiries.
As of now, the suspect is detained at the Danao City Police Station jail. Authorities are in the process of preparing the appropriate criminal charges to be filed against him in connection with the destructive assault.
