Davao City Hall Gets Facelift for Centennial, City Tackles Energy Crisis with New Task Force
Davao City Hall Repainted for 100th Year, Energy Crisis Measures Enacted

Davao City Hall Undergoes Restoration for Historic Milestones

The iconic Davao City Hall is currently receiving a fresh coat of paint, with its facade being restored to its original white finish. This renovation honors the building's neoclassical architectural style, which dates back to its introduction in 1926. The project is a key part of the city government's preparations for two major events: the upcoming Araw ng Davao celebration and the structure's 100th anniversary this year. While the facade is already being repainted, the rest of the building will follow suit in the coming days, ensuring a complete transformation that pays homage to its historical roots.

New Task Force Addresses Energy Crisis with Immediate Measures

In response to the escalating energy crisis, the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emergency Socioeconomic Crisis Response (IATF-Crisis) has issued three critical resolutions aimed at mitigating impacts in Davao City. These measures come as oil prices continue to surge due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, affecting both public and private sectors across economic strata.

Resolution No. 1 mandates a 15 percent reduction in fuel consumption for all city government offices, with exemptions only for emergency and health services to ensure uninterrupted basic service delivery.

Resolution No. 2 urges the Business Bureau to temporarily deny requests for motorcades during the fuel crisis, a move that has already seen participants in the Araw ng Dabaw parade opting to walk to conserve resources.

Resolution No. 3 directs the City Planning and Development Office to implement energy efficiency and conservation measures, such as regulating office lighting and setting air conditioners at 24 degrees Celsius.

Comprehensive Response and Monitoring Efforts

Harvey James Lanticse, officer-in-charge of the City Information Office, emphasized that while the private sector is encouraged to adopt energy-saving practices, compliance is not mandatory. The task force, established through Executive Order No. 7 of 2026, held its first executive meeting on April 6, 2026, and will conduct regular sessions to monitor the situation and guide the city's response.

Key initiatives include:

  • The Department of Trade and Industry providing weekly reports on basic commodity prices.
  • The City Agriculturist's Office strengthening programs to support farmers and ensure food security.
  • The City Social Welfare and Development Office preparing assistance for those affected by oil price hikes.
  • Enhanced monitoring by the safety and security cluster to prevent profiteering and hoarding of petroleum products.

The IATF-Crisis, led by a chairperson and supported by various city offices, focuses on coordinating government response, ensuring fair pricing of goods, and developing policies to restore normal socioeconomic conditions while maintaining peace and order.
