Farmer Arrested for Stabbing Brother-in-Law in Malabuyoc, Faces Frustrated Homicide Charge

A violent altercation between two elderly relatives has resulted in a stabbing incident in Barangay Lombo, Malabuyoc, Cebu. The suspect, a 65-year-old farmer, is now in police custody and is confronting a frustrated homicide case after attacking his brother-in-law.

Details of the Incident

The event unfolded on the evening of Monday, January 26, 2026. Both the victim, identified as Marcos Quintinita, Sr., aged 65, and the suspect, Saturnino Pausal, also 65, were reportedly intoxicated after attending a birthday party. According to initial reports, the conflict began when the victim's son, Julieto, allegedly provoked the suspect during the celebration. In an effort to avoid further trouble, Pausal decided to leave the party and return home.

Escalation of the Dispute

Upon arriving at their residence, Pausal encountered Quintinita and informed him about the earlier provocation by Julieto. Instead of calming the situation, this disclosure angered Quintinita, leading to a heated argument between the two men. The tension escalated when Quintinita challenged Pausal and shouted at him to leave their house.

In a fit of rage, Pausal exited the premises but returned armed with a plamingko, a local farming tool. Although Quintinita was in possession of a bolo knife, he was unable to defend himself as Pausal swiftly stabbed him in the abdomen before he could draw the weapon.

Aftermath and Legal Actions

The victim was immediately rushed to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment. Meanwhile, authorities apprehended the suspect at the scene. Pausal is currently detained at the Malabuyoc Police Station, where he is facing formal charges of frustrated homicide. Police investigations are ongoing to gather more evidence and witness statements related to the case.

This incident highlights the dangers of alcohol-fueled disputes within families and communities. Local officials are urging residents to resolve conflicts peacefully and avoid violence, especially in rural areas where such tools are readily accessible.
