The House prosecution panel has vowed to stay focused on presenting evidence in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, despite what it described as attempts to divert public attention to other issues.
Prosecution sticks to evidence, ignores distractions
Former Surigao del Norte Representative Robert Ace Barbers, spokesman and adviser of the prosecution panel, said the group will not engage with competing narratives. Instead, it will strengthen the evidence being presented before the Senate impeachment court.
"We will not be sidetracked by other issues. Our focus remains on the evidence we have gathered and presented," Barbers said in a statement.
First week of trial: Article IV evidence presented
During the first week of the trial, the prosecution presented evidence related to Article IV of the Articles of Impeachment. This included the testimony of NBI Senior Agent John Mark Calilung, who authenticated videos used as part of the allegations against Duterte.
Barbers emphasized the importance of the senators and the public understanding the significance of the evidence. "It is crucial that the senator-judges and the public see the weight of the evidence we are presenting," he added.
The prosecution panel remains committed to proving its case based solely on the merits of the evidence, Barbers said, dismissing any attempts to derail the proceedings.
