The Philippine political landscape mourns as former Senate President and Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2025. The veteran statesman was 101 years old.
Family Announcement and Final Moments
His daughter, Katrina Ponce Enrile, made the emotional announcement through an Instagram post, sharing the news of her father's peaceful passing. Enrile died at 4:21 p.m. surrounded by his family in the comfort of their home, exactly as he had wished.
"It is with profound love and gratitude that my father, Juan Ponce Enrile, peacefully returned to his Creator on November 13, 2025, at 4:21 p.m., surrounded by our family in the comfort of our home," Katrina stated in her heartfelt message.
Critical Condition and Health Battle
The news about Enrile's deteriorating health first emerged on Tuesday, November 11, when Senator Jinggoy Estrada mentioned it during a Senate plenary session. Estrada revealed that Enrile was in the intensive care unit battling pneumonia, with doctors giving him "little chance of survival" due to his critical condition.
Despite the grim prognosis, Enrile's family was able to honor his final wish to spend his last moments at home rather than in a hospital setting.
Legacy and Public Service
Katrina emphasized that her father dedicated the majority of his life to serving the Filipino people through his extensive political career. Enrile served as Senate President multiple times and held various significant government positions throughout his decades of public service.
"It was his heartfelt wish to take his final rest at home, with his family by his side. We were blessed to honor that wish and to be with him in those sacred final moments," Katrina expressed in her statement.
The family has indicated that details regarding public viewing arrangements will be announced once preparations are complete. Katrina extended the family's gratitude for the overwhelming support received during this difficult time.
"On behalf of our family, I extend our deepest gratitude for the overwhelming love, prayers, and support we have received during this difficult time. Your kindness means more than words can express," she concluded.
