A man described as a local "badboy" is now behind bars after a tense confrontation where he brandished a submachine gun at police officers in Toledo City, Cebu. The incident, which also resulted in his sister being injured, unfolded on the evening of Friday, January 2, 2026.
Dramatic Standoff in Sityo Cabulihan II
The Toledo City Police Station received a distress call regarding a man threatening mechanics who were repairing a payloader in Sityo Cabulihan II, Barangay Ilihan. The suspect, identified as alias Nante, 44, was allegedly agitated over the tools being used by the workers while they conducted repairs on the heavy equipment.
Upon arrival at the scene, responding officers were met with a dangerous sight. Nante was openly carrying a 9mm Uzi submachine gun. According to the police report filed by Investigator Police Staff Sgt. Mark Anthony Arañez, the suspect then attempted to shoot one of the officers. Fortunately, the firearm jammed and failed to discharge.
Failed Shot Leads to Arrest and Recovery
Seeing that his weapon had malfunctioned, Nante quickly discarded the Uzi into nearby bushes before he was subdued and apprehended by the authorities. Police successfully recovered the high-powered firearm, a magazine, and nine live rounds of ammunition. The recovered Uzi bore the serial number 316587.
The situation escalated further when the suspect's sister, identified as alias Jane Helen, 43, intervened during the arrest. Law enforcement was forced to restrain and handcuff her after she sustained minor injuries during the struggle.
Multiple Charges Filed Against Siblings
Both individuals now face serious legal consequences following the chaotic event. Alias Nante will be charged with violations of Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, for the illegal possession of the submachine gun and ammunition. He also faces an additional charge for Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority.
