PRO-NIR Reports Peaceful New Year in Negros Island Region
Negros Island Region Sees Peaceful New Year Celebrations

The Police Regional Office for the Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has officially declared the recent New Year festivities across the region as generally peaceful and orderly. This successful outcome is attributed to the effective implementation of the annual Ligtas Paskuhan 2025 campaign, which ran from December 16, 2025, to January 1, 2026.

Massive Security Deployment Ensures Public Safety

According to Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, chief of the PRO-NIR Public Information Office, the regional police force effectively safeguarded the public throughout the extended holiday season. A robust security framework was established, involving the daily mobilization of over 1,900 personnel. These officers, bolstered by augmentation units and advocacy groups, were strategically positioned in key areas.

Their deployment focused on transport hubs, major tourist spots, places of worship, and other convergence areas to maximize visibility and ensure rapid response to any incidents.

Zero Fatalities from Fireworks, Major Contraband Seized

A significant highlight of the report was the success in managing pyrotechnics-related risks. Police closely monitored 36 local government unit-designated firecracker zones and 32 community fireworks display areas. This vigilance paid off, resulting in a remarkable safety record.

"Notably, no deaths were recorded from firecracker or pyrotechnics use, with zero fire incidents attributed to fireworks during the period," Malong emphasized. Furthermore, law enforcement operations led to the confiscation of 23,415 prohibited firecracker items, preventing potential injuries and accidents.

Road Safety and Anti-Criminality Operations Yield Results

While 58 road crash incidents were logged during the period, PRO-NIR noted that the establishment of motorist assistance hubs allowed for prompt responses, helping to mitigate further harm. The police also underscored that no stray bullet incidents were reported, crediting their intensified campaign against indiscriminate firing.

Beyond public safety, PRO-NIR's anti-criminality drive produced substantial gains. Operations resulted in the arrest of 91 illegal drug suspects, 101 wanted persons, and 34 individuals involved in illegal gambling. Additionally, 37 loose firearms were seized, further consolidating the secure environment for residents and visitors.

Leadership Credits Teamwork and Public Cooperation

Brigadier General Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, commended the dedication of police personnel and the vital cooperation of the public. He stated that the peaceful celebration is a clear testament to the officers' commitment and the strong partnership with communities.

"This positive outcome reflects our collective commitment to safety, discipline, and responsible celebration," Ibay said. He added that PRO-NIR remains steadfast in its mission to sustain peace and order, reinforcing that public safety is a shared responsibility as the region progresses into 2026.
