Malacañang Counters Critics, Insists on Evidence for ICI Allegations

In a firm response to recent criticisms, Malacañang has challenged detractors of the administration to present concrete evidence and substantiate their allegations. This statement came from Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro, who addressed the backlash following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr's remarks on the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).

Defending the ICI's Integrity and Purpose

Castro emphasized that the creation of the ICI is not a cover-up for administration allies, as some lawmakers have suggested. She pointed out that former senator Bong Revilla was among the candidates supported by the administration in the past elections, highlighting the commission's impartial nature. For those questioning the ICI's effectiveness, Castro noted the substantial evidence and documents the commission has gathered in its investigations.

Calling Out Lawmakers on Legislative Delays

The Palace official further pressed critics, particularly members of Congress, to account for their own progress. She questioned what they have done to expedite the passage of the Independent People’s Commission Act, which is listed as a priority legislation under President Marcos. This move underscores the administration's commitment to transparency and anti-corruption efforts.

Reaffirming Commitment to Anti-Corruption and Flood Control

Malacañang stressed that there are individuals who remain dissatisfied with the President's actions, despite visible efforts to combat corruption, especially in flood control issues. The administration asserts its dedication to rigorous work and accountability, urging a focus on facts rather than unfounded accusations.
