PRO-7 Reports Peaceful New Year 2026 in Central Visayas, Zero Fireworks Injuries
Peaceful New Year 2026 in Central Visayas: PRO-7 Report

The skies over Cebu City illuminated with vibrant fireworks as residents joyfully welcomed the New Year at midnight on January 1, 2026. This festive display was matched by a significant achievement in public safety, as authorities reported a remarkably peaceful transition into 2026 across the Central Visayas region.

A Celebration of Safety and Order

The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) officially confirmed a peaceful and orderly New Year's celebration, with no recorded incidents involving injuries from fireworks or indiscriminate gunfire from December 31, 2025, to January 1, 2026. This positive outcome followed weeks of heightened police monitoring aimed at ensuring public safety during the holiday festivities. While PRO-7 acknowledged receiving reports of isolated fireworks-related injuries in the weeks leading up to the New Year, police emphasized that these did not disrupt the overall peace and order situation in the region.

Leadership Commends Community Cooperation

Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, the regional director of PRO-7, expressed his sincere gratitude for the successful celebration. He extended appreciation to communities, partner agencies, local government units, and the police personnel whose cooperation and vigilance made the peaceful event possible.

"Despite minor firework related incidents, the welcoming of Year 2026 remained generally peaceful and orderly. This reflects our shared commitment to public safety and responsible celebration," Maranan stated. He also highlighted the welcome absence of indiscriminate firing incidents and confirmed that no injuries from stray bullets were recorded.

Strict Enforcement and Nationwide Directives

The successful security operation followed a direct order from Philippine National Police Chief, Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., who commanded all police units nationwide to intensify patrols and visibility. A strong directive was issued against the dangerous tradition of firing guns during celebrations.

Authorities had warned that civilians violating the ban would face serious charges, while any police personnel involved would be dismissed from service. General Maranan attributed part of their success to the clear understanding and strict enforcement of the CPNP's One-Strike Policy. "Our strong police presence sent a clear message that any act endangering lives will not be tolerated, and accountability will be swift and uncompromising," he added.

PRO-7 also took the opportunity to thank the public for heeding police warnings and advisories. They commended their own personnel who remained on duty throughout the Christmas season and into the New Year to safeguard the community. The peaceful start to 2026 in Central Visayas stands as a testament to effective law enforcement planning and responsible public participation.
