DILG Secretary Remulla Condemns 'Unjust' Accusations Against Police in Atong Ang Pursuit
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla has publicly expressed his strong opposition to what he describes as "unjust" allegations regarding the Philippine National Police's (PNP) knowledge of businessman Atong Ang's location in connection with a P10-million reward for his arrest. In a recent interview with Bombo Radyo Ph, Remulla emphasized that it would be illogical and unreasonable for authorities to delay an arrest if they indeed knew where Ang was hiding, especially since the reward funds originated from his own office.
Government's Vigorous Search Efforts Detailed
Remulla outlined the extensive measures law enforcement agencies are undertaking to locate Atong Ang. He revealed that authorities have conducted three separate raids over the past two days, based on tips from informants, although these operations have not yet yielded any positive results. The secretary stressed that while there is no confirmed information suggesting Ang has fled the country, this possibility is not being ruled out by investigators.
International Coordination and Challenges in the Manhunt
To bolster the search, Remulla announced that the PNP chief will coordinate with Interpol to check for any sightings of Atong Ang in other nations, particularly within Southeast Asia. He acknowledged that Ang's considerable wealth might facilitate his ability to evade capture, but Remulla firmly asserted that the government's resources and capabilities are far greater in this high-stakes pursuit.
The P10-million reward was announced last week to incentivize information leading to Ang's arrest, as the widespread manhunt continues across the Philippines. Remulla's statements aim to address public skepticism and reinforce confidence in the PNP's operational integrity during this critical law enforcement effort.
