The Senate minority bloc accused the majority group on Monday, June 1, 2026, of abandoning their legislative duties after several senators, including Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano, failed to attend the resumption of the plenary session because they accompanied arrested Senator Jinggoy Estrada.
Minority bloc statement
In a statement, the minority group, identifying itself as "Solid Bloc 11," said its members were present and ready to conduct Senate business at the scheduled resumption of the session at 5 p.m. on June 1. However, they alleged that the majority bloc did not show up and failed to inform them that the session would not proceed.
The minority noted that several measures were pending due to the failure to hold a session, including the proposed Magna Carta of Barangay Health Workers, the Anti-Hospital Detention Bill, confirmation processes of the Commission on Appointments, and bills seeking to grant Philippine citizenship to Bennie Boatwright III and Matthew James Ramos.
Majority senators accompany Estrada
Cayetano, along with majority senators Imee Marcos, Rodante Marcoleta, and Camille and Mark Villar, accompanied Estrada to the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) at Camp Crame after his arrest inside the Senate building on Monday afternoon.
