Atty. Amando Virgil Ligutan has broken his silence over the red-tagging allegations against him, which emerged from online posts claiming he is a member of the National Union of People’s Lawyers (NUPL).
Ligutan denies allegations
In a statement, Ligutan said the allegations are baseless and without merit. He clarified that he has never been a member of the NUPL, contrary to the claims circulating on social media.
Ligutan is one of the private lawyers representing the House of Representatives prosecution panel in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. He believes the red-tagging is directly linked to his work on the trial.
Red-tagging by former official
The allegations were first spread by former government official Lorraine Badoy on her social media accounts, where she linked Ligutan to terrorist groups. Ligutan expressed shock upon learning of the accusations, noting that he has never been associated with any such organizations.
Ligutan emphasized that the red-tagging is an attempt to discredit him and undermine his role in the impeachment proceedings. He called on the public to disregard the false claims.
