Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla has advised all government officials to avoid conflict of interest while serving in public office. He emphasized that officials must choose between engaging in business or pursuing a political career.
Ombudsman's Statement on Conflict of Interest
Remulla's statement comes as the Office of the Ombudsman continues its investigation into several lawmakers involved in anomalies. He stressed that politicians must have integrity and stop any practices that create a conflict of interest. 'If you want to do business, focus on that and do not enter politics,' Remulla said.
Ongoing Investigations
The Ombudsman noted that the issue of government officials becoming government contractors is not limited to party-list representatives. Currently, they are investigating at least two lawmakers implicated in graft cases due to ownership or connections to a construction service company.
