VP Duterte's Legal Team Denounces Madriaga's Allegations as Fabricated
In a forceful rebuttal, Atty. Salvador Paolo Panelo Jr., the legal counsel for Vice President Sara Duterte, has publicly condemned the handwritten letter released by Ramil Madriaga, dated April 11, 2026. Panelo asserted that the Vice President's defense grows stronger each time Madriaga speaks, citing a complete lack of credibility in his claims.
Madriaga's Claims and Panelo's Rebuttal
Madriaga's letter referenced alleged "secret term-sharing agreements," plans for ousting, and assassination plots targeting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Panelo vehemently denied these accusations, labeling them as "pure fiction" and emphasizing that no evidence supports the allegations. He further stated that his team is prepared to refute every point if necessary, but the absence of proof undermines Madriaga's narrative from the outset.
Questioning Credibility and Legal Proceedings
Panelo highlighted his longstanding position that Madriaga's testimony would only expose his unreliability. "I have repeatedly said that making Madriaga testify would just reveal his lack of credibility and expose his lies. He has now succeeded in doing exactly that even before uttering a single word under oath in the House Justice Committee," Panelo remarked. Madriaga, a former member of the security detail, has been involved in discussions with the House Justice Committee regarding impeachment and other allegations.
Impact on the Political Landscape
Overall, Panelo insisted that Madriaga's statements do not bolster his side; instead, they fortify Vice President Duterte's defense. This development adds to the ongoing political tensions, as both sides prepare for potential legal and congressional scrutiny. The case underscores the high-stakes nature of Philippine politics, where allegations can quickly escalate into major controversies.
