VP Sara Told to Show Restraint Instead of Threatening Marcos

House prosecution spokesperson and Lanao del Sur Representative Zia Alonto Adiong said Vice President Sara Duterte should have shown restraint instead of allegedly threatening President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Adiong emphasized that anger is not a sufficient reason for a high-ranking government official to issue threats, as they are expected to adhere to higher standards of conduct set by the Constitution.

Call for Accountability

Adiong insisted that such language should not be normalized or made acceptable, especially coming from the second highest official of the country. He stressed that public officials must be held to a higher standard, and that the rule of law applies to everyone, regardless of position.

Impeachment Case Details

Duterte faces impeachment over her statement on November 23, 2024, which the prosecution links to allegations of grave threats against President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former Speaker Martin Romualdez. According to Adiong, the Vice President's remarks crossed the line and warranted legal action.

“The Constitution expects our leaders to be models of propriety and restraint. A threat, even in the heat of anger, is unacceptable and must be addressed through proper legal channels,” Adiong said in a statement.
