Dela Rosa May Waive Salary While Absent from Senate

Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa may choose not to receive his salary and allowances while he continues to be absent from the Senate, according to Senate Committee on Ethics Chair Senator JV Ejercito.

Ethics Committee Deliberations

Ejercito stated that the committee has discussed pending complaints against several senators under their first-in, first-out system. Amid these discussions, the issue of Dela Rosa's situation emerged.

The Ethics Committee chair revealed that there are indications Dela Rosa's camp is considering the voluntary surrender of his salary and allowances during his absence from the Senate. Ejercito had earlier suggested this move as a step to demonstrate accountability.

Background of Absence

Dela Rosa has not attended Senate sessions since November 2025, following reports that the International Criminal Court (ICC) had issued an arrest warrant against him related to his role as former chief of the Philippine National Police in the Duterte administration's drug war.

No official statement has been released by Senator Dela Rosa regarding his continued absence from the Senate or the issue of his salary and allowances.
