Palace Considers Bounty for Fugitive Ex-Lawmaker Zaldy Co Amid International Search
Malacañang Open to Bounty for Ex-Rep Zaldy Co's Capture

The administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is considering putting up a monetary reward for information that could lead to the capture of former Ako Bicol Party-list representative Zaldy Co, who is currently a fugitive from justice.

Palace Acknowledges "Good Suggestion" for Cash Reward

During a press briefing on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated that while no formal plan for a bounty has been discussed yet, the proposal is seen as a positive idea. Castro confirmed that President Marcos has already directed all concerned government agencies to coordinate efforts to locate Co overseas and ensure his swift return to the Philippines.

"For now, nothing has been discussed about that. But since we heard your suggestion, it may be considered," Castro told reporters, responding to queries about offering a cash reward.

International Manhunt Underway, Location Being Verified

The Palace official did not confirm circulating reports that Co is hiding in Portugal. She emphasized that relevant authorities are still in the process of verifying his actual whereabouts as part of their coordinated international search. The government's primary focus is on confirming his location before taking further steps.

This development follows the earlier order from President Marcos for the immediate apprehension of the former congressman. The directive came after a court issued a warrant for Co's arrest, prompting a nationwide and now international search operation.

All Agencies Mobilized for Fugitive's Return

Castro underscored the President's clear instructions to bring Co back to face justice. "The President has already ordered them to search for and bring back Zaldy Co. All concerned agencies must verify information and help ensure his immediate return to the Philippines," she stated.

The administration's openness to a bounty system highlights the seriousness with which it is treating the case. Such rewards are sometimes used to incentivize the public, both locally and abroad, to provide credible information that can lead to the arrest of high-profile fugitives.

The next steps depend heavily on the verification of Co's location by Philippine authorities working with international counterparts. Once confirmed, a formal reward offer could be announced to accelerate the manhunt and conclude the legal proceedings awaiting him in the Philippines.
