Paolo Duterte Thanks DDS, Criticizes 'Disarray' in New Year 2026 Message
Paolo Duterte's New Year Message: Thanks DDS, Slams Administration

Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo "Pulong" Duterte has extended his gratitude to the loyal supporters of his family while delivering a sharp critique of the current national administration in his New Year's message for 2026.

Gratitude for Steadfast Support Amid Criticism

In his statement released on New Year's Eve, Duterte first thanked the Duterte Diehard Supporters (DDS) and all Filipinos who continue to stand by his family. He acknowledged the political attacks and sustained criticism they have faced.

"As we enter 2026, first of all—many thanks to every Filipino who continues to stand firm, support, and trust the Duterte family," Duterte said in a mix of Filipino and English.

He specifically praised the courage of their supporters to remain vocal despite what he described as political noise and smear campaigns. The lawmaker gave special recognition to his father, former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, stating that the ongoing public support reflects an appreciation for his father's brand of leadership.

"Most especially, we thank you for your continued love and respect for our father... We still feel your support because you know what he fought for: discipline, concern for the ordinary person, and courage in the face of problems," Duterte emphasized.

A Critique of 2025 and Hopes for 2026

Reflecting on the past year, Representative Duterte painted a grim picture of 2025. He described it as a difficult period marked by unmet promises, unanswered questions, and persistent economic hardship for many Filipinos.

Despite these challenges, he declared that their camp would not surrender and would move forward stronger and more determined. Looking ahead, Duterte expressed a hope for a better 2026, directly taking a swipe at the current leadership.

"As we welcome 2026, our wish is simple but important: a year better than 2025, more humane, more honest, and free from a disarrayed administration," he stated.

He stressed that the coming year should prioritize genuine public service over propaganda and concrete action over excuses.

Budget Vote and Call for Accountability

Duterte's message follows a notable political move he made earlier in December 2025. He stood apart from the majority in Congress by voting against the ratification of the P6.793-trillion 2026 national budget.

He stated he could not, "in good conscience," support a spending measure he believes is "plagued by unanswered questions, uneven allocations, and insertions that risk repeating past abuses." This aligns with broader criticisms from budget opponents who point to concerns over fiscal transparency and large unprogrammed appropriations.

Despite his "no" vote, Duterte clarified that he is not opposed to development itself but is advocating for greater transparency, fairness, and accountability in how government funds are spent.

Duterte concluded his New Year's message with a rallying cry, urging supporters and Filipinos to continue standing for truth, justice, and the welfare of the people. "Let's continue. Let us stand for truth, for justice, and for the welfare of the Filipino people," he said, wishing everyone a Happy New Year.
