The local government unit of Magalang town is set to implement the Malugud Gateway Corridor, also known as the Magalang Road Dike Project. This infrastructure initiative, spearheaded by Mayor Malu Lacson, aims to enhance flood protection, improve connectivity, and create new economic opportunities for residents.
Project Scope and Route
The corridor is expected to serve dual purposes: as a flood-control structure and as a vital transport link among several barangays in the municipality. According to Lacson, the road dike will start in Barangay La Paz and connect to the barangays of Sto. Niño, San Nicolas 2, San Agustin, and Bucanan.
Partnerships and Support
The initiative is being undertaken by the municipal government in partnership with the Department of Public Works and Highways Region 3, the provincial government under Governor Lilia “Nanay Baby” Pineda and Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda, and Congressman Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. This collaboration underscores the project's significance for regional development.
Expected Impact
By integrating flood control with transportation, the Malugud Gateway Corridor is designed to mitigate flooding risks in vulnerable areas while facilitating easier movement of people and goods. Lacson emphasized that the project will open up new economic opportunities, boosting local trade and commerce along the corridor.
The municipal government has not yet announced the project's timeline or budget, but the involvement of DPWH and provincial leaders signals strong institutional backing.
