The Cleveland Cavaliers continued their impressive run, securing a 136-131 win against the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night, as reported by the Associated Press. This victory marks their fourth consecutive win, bolstering their position in the Eastern Conference standings.
Star Performances Lead the Way
Donovan Mitchell was the standout player, exploding for 42 points in a dominant display. This performance marked his sixth 40-point game of the season, tying him for the fourth-most in the league. Mitchell has historically excelled against Orlando, now averaging 27.2 points over 23 regular-season meetings, with three 40-point games to his name.
James Harden provided crucial early firepower, scoring 22 of his 26 points in the first half, including three three-pointers. This was his highest scoring output in the opening two quarters since joining the Cavaliers, helping Cleveland take a 72-68 lead at halftime. The game featured intense moments, such as a mid-air collision between Harden and Paolo Banchero during a behind-the-back pass to Max Strus.
Supporting Cast and Team Effort
Evan Mobley contributed efficiently with 19 points on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting from the field, along with nine rebounds and six assists. His performance was key in maintaining Cleveland's momentum throughout the game. The Cavaliers improved their record to 45-27, staying within 2½ games of the third-place New York Knicks in the East.
Despite building a 114-103 lead with 9:19 remaining, the Cavaliers faced a late push from the Magic. Wendell Carter Jr. cut the deficit to three with free throws at 37.5 seconds left, but Mitchell sealed the win with a driving floater with 13.7 seconds on the clock.
Magic Struggle Continues
Paolo Banchero led Orlando with 36 points, including 16 in the first quarter as the Magic raced to a 39-32 lead. However, he cooled off afterward, shooting 5-of-12 after his hot start. The loss dropped Orlando to 38-34, extending their losing streak to six games and placing them in a three-way tie for eighth place in the East with Charlotte and Miami.
Tristan da Silva added 18 points for the Magic, while Desmond Bane and Jamal Cain chipped in 17 points each. In other NBA action, the Charlotte Hornets routed the Sacramento Kings 134-90, the New York Knicks edged the New Orleans Pelicans 121-116, and Denver held off Phoenix 125-123.
