The Cebu Greats secured a dramatic 84–83 victory over the Batangas City Tanduay Athletics on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the Pasay Astrodome in the SportsPlus Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). The win came in spectacular fashion on a controversial buzzer-beater.
Final Seconds of Regulation
With only 3.7 seconds remaining, Batangas held an 83–82 lead. Ced Ablaza stepped to the free-throw line and made one of two attempts, giving his team a one-point advantage. Cebu quickly secured the rebound, and Simon Camacho passed the ball to Paul Desiderio near half-court.
The Game-Winning Play
Desiderio launched a long-range shot as time expired. The ball did not go directly into the basket, but Batangas player Rhinwill Yambing jumped and touched the ball near the rim. The referees immediately called goaltending, ruling that Yambing illegally interfered with the ball while it was still on its downward trajectory. As a result, Cebu was awarded three points, sealing the victory at the buzzer.
Reaction and Aftermath
Cebu players and fans erupted in celebration once the officials confirmed the decision. The win improved the Greats' record to 2–1, tying Batangas in the standings. Desiderio led Cebu with 21 points and three rebounds, earning Best Player of the Game honors. Jun Manzo contributed 18 points, four assists, three steals, and two rebounds, while Mark Meneses posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
For Batangas, Jhan Nermal scored 18 points, Ino Comboy added 15 points and six assists, and Rhinwill Yambing finished with 12 points and four rebounds despite being involved in the decisive play.
