HCDC Cross Blazers Lead Davao City to Victory in Prisaa Meet 2026 Basketball
Davao City Wins Prisaa Basketball Title, Advances to Nationals

The Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) Cross Blazers have steered the Davao City squad to a triumphant victory in the men's basketball championship at the recently concluded Davao Region Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) Meet 2026. This win not only marks a significant achievement for the team but also secures their spot in the upcoming National Prisaa Finals.

A Hard-Fought Championship Game

In a thrilling showdown at the Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines (AIFCP) Gym, Davao City outlasted Cor Jesu College of Davao del Sur with a final score of 95-85. The game was a testament to the team's resilience and strategic prowess, building on their earlier dominant performance where they routed RMC Tagum of Davao del Norte 86-62.

Coach Elegino's Winning Strategy

Dabawenyo coach Cholo Elegino attributed the victory to meticulous preparation and a well-assembled roster. "Preparation is the key. With the right coaching staff and athletes, we were ready. I think that made the difference," he emphasized. The team entered the tournament with clear expectations, training rigorously five days a week in three-hour sessions that honed their execution and allowed the coaching staff to craft a competitive lineup.

Elegino added, "We prepared to win. There were challenges along the way, but we managed them." This disciplined approach proved crucial in navigating the tournament's obstacles and emerging victorious.

A Historic Milestone for HCDC

This championship holds special significance for the Cross Blazers, as it represents a historic run for the team. After years of competing as a guest school, HCDC recently returned to Prisaa as a full member, making this victory a monumental milestone. "It's a historic run and a huge milestone for us. Most events were won by HCDC, and the school has a deep sports tradition," Elegino noted, underscoring the pride and legacy associated with this achievement.

Looking Ahead to the National Finals

With the regional crown secured, HCDC now sets its sights on the National Prisaa Finals, scheduled to take place in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, from May 8 to 15, 2026. The team is poised to carry forward their momentum and competitive edge into this prestigious national competition.
