Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao has confirmed that the highly anticipated rematch with American Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been postponed indefinitely. Originally scheduled for September 25, 2026, in Las Vegas, USA, the bout's status is now uncertain.
Lawsuit Filed Against Mayweather
According to boxingscene.com, the delay follows a lawsuit filed against Mayweather by CSI Sports Events. The company, which planned an exhibition bout between Mayweather and American heavyweight legend Mike Tyson, filed the case in the U.S. Southern District Court of New York. CSI seeks to prevent Mayweather from participating in another exhibition fight against Greek kickboxing legend Mike "The Iron" Zambidis, scheduled for June 28, 2026 (Philippine time) in Greece.
CSI claims it provided Mayweather with an advance payment of $4.65 million to exclusively promote his fights against Tyson and Pacquiao. The Tyson vs. Mayweather bout was originally set for May 30, 2026, but was postponed after Tyson suffered an injury during training.
Mayweather's Double Dealings
After receiving the cash advance from CSI, Mayweather allegedly signed another contract with a different company to fight Zambidis. Although the Mayweather-Zambidis fight is approaching, it lacks legal sanctioning, no streaming platform, and ticket sales have been canceled, leading Mayweather's camp to withdraw recently. The promoter of the Zambidis fight revealed they had given Mayweather a $3 million cash advance.
These are just a few of the legal cases currently facing Mayweather.
Pacquiao's Next Move
With the rematch now uncertain, Pacquiao is expected to consider finding another opponent for his next fight. Despite being 47 years old, Pacquiao proved he can still compete with younger boxers when he fought to a majority draw against World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion American Mario Barrios in July 2025.
